📖 Virtues and Guidelines of Rajab 📚
✍️… By Islamic Scholar Maulana Mohammad Ilyas Ghuman (Hafizahullah)
Allah Almighty has made the year 12 months long and declared four of these months (Dhul Qa’dah, Dhul Hijjah, Muharram, and Rajab) as sacred. 🙌 During these months, worship earns extra rewards. Those who avoid sins in these months are helped to stay away from sins in other months too.
🤲 Dua for Sight of Rajab Moon:
The Prophet Muhammad ď·ş would pray when the new moon of Rajab appeared:
“O Allah, bless us in Rajab and Sha’ban and let us reach Ramadan.”
(Narrated by Anas ibn Malik – Kitab al-Du’a)
Benefit:
The Prophet ﷺ’s dua for blessings in Rajab shows it is a month filled with blessings. 🌙

🌌 The First Night of Rajab:
The first night of Rajab holds great virtue, and prayers made on this night are accepted.
According to Abdullah ibn Umar (RA):
“Five nights are such that prayers made on these are not rejected: the night of Friday, the first night of Rajab, the 15th night of Sha’ban, and the nights of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha.”
🎯 No Special Worship:
While the first night of Rajab is blessed, no special worship should be invented or practiced without evidence. 🙅‍♂️ It’s also important not to let voluntary worship affect obligatory prayers like Fajr.
⛲ Fasting in Rajab:
It is reported that the Prophet ď·ş would observe fasts in Rajab and considered it a sacred month. (Narrated by Abdullah ibn Umar – Jam’ al-Wasa’il)
For those fasting in Rajab:
A magnificent palace in Paradise awaits them. đź•‹ (Reported by Abu Qilabah – Fada’il al-Awqat)

đź’° Zakat in Rajab:
Some mistakenly believe Zakat became obligatory during the month of Rajab on the night of Mi’raj. This is incorrect. Zakat is due whenever its conditions are met, not in a specific month.
đź«“ The Ritual of Sweet Bread:
In some places, people read Surah Mulk 41 times on sweet bread for Esaal-e-Sawab (rewarding the deceased). This practice is baseless in Shariah and should be avoided.
🍽️ The Story of “Badi Bibi”:
Some women cook a special dish on the 22nd night of Rajab while reciting a fabricated story called “Badi Bibi’s Tale.” Such stories and rituals have no basis in Islam.
🪓 The Woodcutter’s False Story:
A fabricated story about a woodcutter finding treasure due to “vows for Imam Jafar Sadiq’s Konday” has been spread. These made-up tales lead to innovations that are neither proven nor permissible. đźš«
❌ Unfounded Practices in Rajab:
- “1,000 Fasts Belief” on the 27th of Rajab:
Some people believe fasting on this day is equal to a thousand fasts, but this is baseless. - Salat al-Raghaib:
A special prayer on the first Friday or the 27th night of Rajab, claiming immense rewards, is not proven from authentic sources.
🤲 Conclusion:
May Allah grant us the ability to follow the true teachings of Islam and keep us safe from fabricated and baseless practices. Ameen. 🤲
