Surah Al-Ma’un (The Small Kindnesses) – Tafseer, Meaning, and Lessons

📖 Makki Surah | 7 Verses | The Small Kindnesses

🌟 Introduction

Surah Al-Ma’un (The Small Gifts) is the 107th chapter of the Holy Qur’an. It strongly condemns hypocrisy, selfishness, and neglecting the needs of others. Revealed in Makkah, this Surah reminds believers that true faith is reflected not just in prayers, but in acts of kindness and compassion.

📜 Cause of Revelation

According to authentic tafseer sources (Ibn Kathir, Ma’ariful Qur’an), Surah Al-Ma’un was revealed to expose the hypocrites and arrogant disbelievers who performed acts of worship only to show off, while ignoring the rights of the poor and needy.

The Surah particularly warns about:

  • Those who deny the Day of Judgment

  • People who push away orphans

  • Those who avoid small acts of charity (Ma’un)

These verses remind Muslims that ignoring social responsibility is a sign of a hardened heart.

❤️ Lessons from Surah Al-Ma’un

  1. Faith + Actions go together – Belief without compassion is incomplete.

  2. Hypocrisy is dangerous – Performing worship for show is spiritually hollow.

  3. Charity matters – Even small acts of kindness count in the sight of Allah.

  4. Orphans deserve care – Neglecting the vulnerable is a grave sin.
