Kufa: A Land of History
Kufa, a city that has witnessed centuries, was a meeting point for Arabs and non-Arabs, where divisions between them began to fade. It was blessed with the footsteps of hundreds of great Companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him), filling its air with the fragrance of their piety and wisdom. Established during Caliph Umar’s time, Kufa became a hub of knowledge and leadership. It was graced by 1,050 Companions, including 24 who fought alongside the Prophet at the Battle of Badr.

Birth of a Great Scholar
In 80 AH (699 CE), during the rule of Abdul Malik bin Marwan and governorship of Hajjaj bin Yusuf, a child was born in Kufa. His name was Nu’man bin Thabit, later known as Imam Abu Hanifa, the leader of jurists and narrators of Hadith. At that time, some Companions of the Prophet were still alive, sharing their blessings with the younger generations.

Name and Title
– Name: Nu’man means “life-giving blood,” symbolizing how Imam Abu Hanifa strengthened the Muslim community.
– *Title (Kunya)*: “Abu Hanifa” is not familial but descriptive, meaning “Father of the Upright Religion,” reflecting his work in organizing and preserving Islamic teachings.

Contributions to Fiqh (Islamic Jurisprudence)
Imam Abu Hanifa studied under scholars linked to Caliph Ali and Abdullah ibn Masud. His school of thought, later called the Hanafi School, became a comprehensive and systematic legal framework for Muslims.
