📝 Alhamdulillah, and peace upon His chosen servants. To proceed:
Among the best of mankind are the Prophets (علیہم الصلوٰت والتسلیمات), followed by those who are closest to them in attributes and are their manifestations. Prophets (علیہم السلام) are granted nearness to Allah, Divine protection, definitive knowledge, and the highest level of human honor, such that their lives become exemplary for many generations.
The Arrival of the Perfect Ones among the Manifestations of the Prophets:➡️
Divine nearness means always being in the company of Allah. Divine protection means being safeguarded from the evils of Satan. Definitive knowledge is such that no human can revise it, and human honor means no force of anger or desire can surpass this honor. The Prophet Muhammad (صلّى الله عليه وسلّم) was in the company of Allah, and this company included Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddiq (رضي الله عنه). Allah informed him of this true companionship with the words:
إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَعَنَا
“Indeed, Allah is with us.” (At-Tawbah 9:40)
The Prophet (صلّى الله عليه وسلّم) was protected from Satanic evils, and similarly, Satan would flee from Hazrat Umar (رضي الله عنه). Although Hazrat Umar’s status was not one of absolute infallibility, it was very close to it. Hazrat Abu Bakr, in his role as Siddiq, was the custodian of definitive knowledge, and according to Hadith, Hazrat Umar (رضي الله عنه) also received such knowledge that Allah spoke to him without prophethood, and fountains of knowledge flowed from his heart. During prayer, he would receive battle strategies, and history testifies that divine support would descend upon these armies, leading to the downfall of disbelief.
Being Colored in the Shade of Divine Protection:➡️
Prophets are protected from both Satanic interference and human negligence by Allah. The Prophet (صلّى الله عليه وسلّم) himself gave the glad tidings that Hazrat Umar (رضي الله عنه) was protected from Satanic interference.
1️⃣ Hazrat Saad bin Abi Waqqas (رضي الله عنه) narrates that some women of the Quraysh (the Mothers of the Believers) were speaking loudly in the presence of the Prophet (صلّى الله عليه وسلّم). When Hazrat Umar (رضي الله عنه) came and asked for permission to enter, these women hurriedly went behind the veil upon hearing his name. The Prophet (صلّى الله عليه وسلّم) allowed Hazrat Umar to enter and saw a smile on the Prophet’s face. Hazrat Umar asked, “May Allah keep you smiling, what made you smile?” The Prophet (صلّى الله عليه وسلّم) replied, “I am amazed at these women who, upon hearing your voice, hurriedly went behind the veil.” Hazrat Umar then addressed the women, “You fear me but not the Prophet (صلّى الله عليه وسلّم)?” They replied, “Yes, you are more strict.” The Prophet (صلّى الله عليه وسلّم) said, “Listen, O son of Khattab”:
ما لقيك الشيطان سالكا فجا قط إلا سلك فجا غير فجك
“By Allah, no path do you take but Satan takes another path.” (Sahih Bukhari 3683)
When Satan leaves your path, and in some narrations, flees from you like a donkey flees from a lion, it is evident that there was a natural and constant distance between you and Satan. This is a great news of protection from sins. This is not infallibility, as infallibility is a special attribute of the Prophets, but being colored in the shade of Divine protection is also a significant virtue. This is supported by the Hadith that not only the jinn but also human devils flee from Hazrat Umar Ummul Mu’mineen Hazrat Aisha Siddiqah (رضي الله عنها) narrates that the Prophet (صلّى الله عليه وسلّم) said:
إني لانظر إلى شياطين الإنس والجن قد فروا من عمر
“I see the devils among humans and jinn fleeing from Umar.” (Sunan Tirmidhi 3691)
Thus, it is evident that this type of mourning is condemned even by the blessed person for whom these mourning ceremonies are held. Every Muslim should avoid this practice and adhere to the teachings of the Prophet
2️⃣ The Scene of Flowing Fountains of Knowledge:
Hazrat Abu Hamza narrates that the Prophet Muhammad (صلّى الله عليه وسلّم) said:
بَيْنا أنا نائِمٌ، شَرِبْتُ، يَعْنِي، اللَّبَنَ حتَّى أنْظُرَ إلى الرِّيِّ يَجْرِي في ظُفُرِي أوْ في أظْفارِي، ثُمَّ ناوَلْتُ عُمَرَ
Translation: “While I was sleeping, I drank (milk) until I saw its wetness flowing through my nails, then I handed it to Umar.” (Sahih Bukhari, Volume 1, Page 520, Hadith 3681)
Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (رضي الله عنه) narrates it in these words:
رأيت كأني أتيت بقدح من لبن فشربت منه فأعطيت فضلي عمر بن الخطاب
Translation: “I saw in a dream that a cup of milk was given to me, which I drank, and the remainder I gave to Umar bin Khattab.” (Jami’ Tirmidhi, Volume 2, Page 564, Hadith 3687)
When the Prophet (صلّى الله عليه وسلّم) was asked about the interpretation, he said, “It is knowledge.” This signifies Hazrat Umar’s great status. Those who receive knowledge from the blessed cup of the Prophet (صلّى الله عليه وسلّم) always speak the truth, even if they are unaware of the causes. Their tongues constantly speak the truth, and this status is just below prophethood. If Hazrat Umar was not a prophet, it was because the door to prophethood had already been closed.
3️⃣ The Heavenly Confirmation of Truthfulness and Sincerity:
Hazrat Abdullah narrates that the Prophet (صلّى الله عليه وسلّم) said:
إن الله جعل الحق على لسان عمر وقلبه
Translation: “Indeed, Allah has placed the truth on Umar’s tongue and in his heart.” (Jami’ Tirmidhi, Volume 2, Page 563, Lucknow, Hadith 3682)
The Prophet (صلّى الله عليه وسلّم) spoke not only of Hazrat Umar’s tongue but also of his heart. Often, even hypocrites may speak the truth, but their hearts are not aligned with it. How fortunate is the person whose tongue and heart are in harmony, and even more so when the Prophet of Allah testifies to it. When Hazrat Abdullah (رضي الله عنه) narrated this hadith, he added his testimony:
ما نزل بالناس امر قط فقالوا فيه، وقال: فيه عمر، إلا نزل فيه القرآن على نحو ما قال عمر
Translation: “Whenever an incident occurred, and people expressed their opinions, and Umar also expressed his opinion, the Quran would be revealed confirming what Umar had said.”
This is a testament to the remarkable alignment between Hazrat Umar’s (رضي الله عنه) insights and the divine revelations of the Quran.

4️⃣ Finding a Place Under the Shadow of Prophethood:
Hazrat Ali Murtaza (رضي الله عنه) says that we (the companions) felt as if the place of tranquility (which Allah sent down in the Cave of Thawr upon the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم in the company of Hazrat Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه) had descended upon Hazrat Umar’s tongue:
كنا نبعد أن السكينة تنطق على لسان عمر
Translation: “We were very astonished to realize that tranquility had descended upon Hazrat Umar’s tongue.”
5️⃣ Hazrat Uqba bin Aamir (رضي الله عنه) (58 AH) narrates that the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said:
لو كان بعدي نبي لكان عمر بن الخطاب
Translation: “If there were to be a prophet after me, it would have been Umar bin Khattab.” (Jami’ Tirmidhi, Page 563, Hadith 3686)
This hadith indicates that Hazrat Umar had traversed all ranks of divine guardianship, whether minor or major, and the only reason he did not attain prophethood was that the door to it was closed, not due to any deficiency in his recognition of Allah. The only other person worthy of this rank would have been the Prophet’s son, Hazrat Ibrahim, who passed away in childhood. Had the door to prophethood remained open, he would have reached the age of prophethood and assumed this responsibility. Since the door to prophethood was closed, it was impossible for him to live longer.
6️⃣ The Honor of Conversing with Allah:
Ummul Mu’mineen Hazrat Aisha Siddiqa (رضي الله عنها) says that the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said:
قد كان يكون في الأمم قبلكم محدَّثون، فإن يكن في أمتي منهم أحد، فإن عمر بن الخطاب منهم
Translation: “Indeed, in the nations before you, there were people who were inspired by divine guidance. If there is anyone like this in my nation, it is indeed Umar bin Khattab.” (Sahih Muslim, Volume 2, Page 274)
7️⃣ The Garment of Faith Adorning His Being:
Hazrat Abu Saeed Al-Khudri (رضي الله عنه) narrates that the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said:
Translation: “While I was sleeping, I saw people being presented before me, wearing shirts. Some shirts reached the chest, and some were shorter than that. Hazrat Umar bin Khattab was also presented, wearing a shirt that he was dragging. The companions asked, ‘What does this mean, O Messenger of Allah?’ He replied, ‘This is the faith (deen) shown to me in the form of a shirt.'” (Sahih Muslim)
In this narration, the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم was shown Hazrat Umar’s practice of faith, symbolized as a shirt that enveloped his entire being. The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم saw the abundance of Hazrat Umar’s knowledge in the form of milk he drank to satiation, indicating that knowledge must be narrated. Hazrat Umar drank the milk given by the Prophet The practice of faith is established by one’s own deeds, so Hazrat Umar wore a full shirt. In practice, the tongue and heart have special significance, and the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم confirmed Hazrat Umar’s distinction in these aspects.
Why was the shirt dragging on the ground? This was to show that Hazrat Umar’s practice of faith would continue to be followed by the Ummah. The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم was shown that Hazrat Umar’s ways would be emulated by his followers, and the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم instructed to follow the rightly guided caliphs after him. After knowledge and practice, the first rank in virtuous character is sincerity, and in this regard, the Prophet’s صلى الله عليه وسلم testimony can be heard.

8️⃣ The Prophet ﷺ Saw Your Palace in Paradise
Hazrat Jabir bin Abdullah Ansari (RA) narrates that the Prophet ﷺ said:
“I saw myself entering Paradise, and there I saw (my maternal aunt) Rumaisa, the wife of Abu Talha. I heard the sound of footsteps and asked, ‘Who is this?’ I was told, ‘This is Bilal.’ I saw a palace with a slave girl in its courtyard. I asked, ‘Whose palace is this?’ They said, ‘It belongs to Umar.’ I wanted to enter and look at it, but I remembered your sense of modesty, O Umar. Umar (RA) said, ‘May my parents be sacrificed for you, O Messenger of Allah! Would I feel any jealousy over you?'” (Sahih Bukhari, Volume 1, Page 53, Hadith Number: 3679)
Imam Tirmidhi (RA) at this point quotes the narration of Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas (RA): “The dreams of the Prophets are revelation.” So, Imam Tirmidhi pointed out that the news given by the Prophet ﷺ about Hazrat Umar’s palace in Paradise is based on divine revelation, and there is no room for doubt around it. The Prophet ﷺ not only saw Hazrat Umar’s palace in Paradise but also his position of caliphate in his dream and saw that his caliphate benefited the Ummah more than that of Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddiq (RA).
9️⃣ The Prophet ﷺ Saw Your Position of Caliphate
Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (RA) says that the Prophet ﷺ said:
“I saw in a dream that I was drawing water from a well with a bucket. Then Abu Bakr came and drew one or two buckets in a weak manner, and Allah forgave him. Then Umar bin Khattab came, and the bucket turned into a large vessel. I have never seen anyone so strong in drawing water as Umar, until the people drank their fill and watered their camels.” (Sahih Bukhari, Volume 1, Page 520, Hadith Number: 3479)
This depicts the caliphate of Hazrat Umar, which the Prophet ﷺ was shown in a symbolic form. The caliphate is meant to benefit and provide maximum welfare to the people. History testifies that the benefits and comfort that people experienced during the caliphate of Hazrat Umar have no parallel among the rulers of the world. A caliph is recognized by his work, not just his name or claims, and Hazrat Umar fulfilled the duties of caliphate in the best manner.
🔟 Islam’s Honor and Dominance Due to Hazrat Umar
The honor that the Arabs received from Islam echoed in the sermons of Hazrat Ali Al-Murtaza (RA). Nonetheless, it cannot be denied that the Messenger’s words placed Hazrat Umar (RA) at the position that brought honor to Islam. Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar says that the Prophet ﷺ made this supplication: “O Allah! Strengthen Islam with the one you love more between Umar bin Al-Khattab and Amr bin Hisham (Abu Jahl).” And Umar was dearer to Allah. The Prophet’s ﷺ supplication was: اللَّهُمَّ أَعِزَّ الإِسْلَامَ بِأَحَبِّ هَذَيْنِ الرَّجُلَيْنِ إِلَيْكَ بِأَبِي جَهْلٍ أَوْ بِعُمَرَ بْنِ الخَطَّابِ “O Allah! Honor Islam with the one you love more between these two men, Abu Jahl or Umar bin Al-Khattab.” (Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith Number: 3681)
1️⃣1️⃣ The Honor of Being Resurrected with the Prophet ﷺ
Imam Tirmidhi, in the virtues of Hazrat Umar (RA), narrates that the Prophet ﷺ said: أَنَا أَوَّلُ مَنْ تَنْشَقُّ عَنْهُ الأَرْضُ، ثُمَّ أَبُو بَكْرٍ، ثُمَّ عُمَرُ، ثُمَّ يَأْتِي أَهْلُ الْبَقِيعِ فَيُحْشَرُونَ مَعِي
“I will be the first to be resurrected from the earth, then Abu Bakr, then Umar. Then the people of Al-Baqi will be resurrected with me.” (Sunan Tirmidhi, Volume 3, Page 566)
Rising from one place and in this sequence indicates that the Prophet ﷺ was given knowledge of who would be with him in the Green Dome and that no one else would come in the place of the fourth grave except for Hazrat Isa bin Maryam. The honor of being between two Prophets, Hazrat Isa (AS) and the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, is significant. Hazrat Isa will have two resurrections, one with his own Ummah and one with this Ummah. Due to the time gap, only the resurrection of the three together is mentioned here.
This also indicates that Allah created these three from the same soil. Khateeb Baghdadi (463 AH) in his book “Al-Muttafaq wal-Muftaraq” narrates from Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas’ud (RA) that the Prophet ﷺ said: مَا مِنْ *مولود إِلا وَفِي سُرَّتِهِ مِنْ تُرْبَتِهِ الَّتِي خُلِقَ مِنْهَا، وَإِنِّي أَنَا وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرُ خُلِقْنَا مِنْ تُرْبَةٍ وَاحِدَةٍ، وَفِيهَا نَعُودُ (ماخوز فتاوی افریقہ، ص:99)
“There is no newborn except that there is in his navel from the soil from which he was created, and I, Abu Bakr, and Umar were created from one soil, and we will return to it.” (Reference: Fatawa Africa, Page 99)
Translation: Every child has in his navel a part of the soil from which he was made until he is buried in it. And I, Abu Bakr, and Umar were created from one soil, and we will be buried in it.
